The Domestic Belomor Canal Museum draws together reality and fiction, private memories and official history, found objects and local souvenirs. It contains objects that we came across during our expeditions taken 2016-2017 in and around the area of the canal. Each object contains and reveals its own nature, formed by its history. Some of the objects were found in abandoned barracks and campsites; roasted barbed wire that emanates the history of the area and the Gulags, plastic soviet toys left in empty houses near the canal gates built for workers in the 30’s, textbooks from the school destroyed in fire, old gramophone records pretending to contain the speeches of Stalin. A ball of red thread Ariadne traces in this labyrinth of meanings.
